Counties Council has voted in favour of contributing $1,000 to the Rideau Corridor Awards Program. Doug Struthers, chair of the Rideau Corridor Steering Committee, made a presentation to council at the Committee of the Whole meeting on March 7. In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Rideau Canal’s inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List, and in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday, the Committee has announced the Rideau Corridor Awards Program.

The goal of the new award is to recognize and promote good design, environmental stewardship and economic development that serves to protect, enhance and celebrate the heritage character and sustainability of the Rideau Canal corridor.

The competition is open to all individuals, children and youth up to age 18, schools, businesses, community groups and organizations of the 13 municipalities along the Rideau Canal corridor. The nomination period is from May 1 to June 30, 2017. Learn more about the Rideau Corridor Awards Program on their website.
