Merrickville-Wolford council passed a resolution at last week’s council meeting to appoint Arie Hoogenboom as interim CAO/Clerk for the municipality. This came at the request of the current interim CAO/Treasurer, Nigel White, who is finding it difficult to manage the work of two full time vacancies on a part time basis.
The municipalities’ current CAO/Clerk is on a leave of absence. The Village is also without a full time Treasurer and recruitment for this position is underway.
“We appreciate the patience of our public and our staff as we deal with all of these issues. Mr. Hoogenboom’s involvement will help us in that regard” shared Mayor Nash.
Arie is not a new face to the Municipality. He was hired as interim CAO in February, 2016 to replace former CAO, Jill Eagle, before John Regan was hired. Arie is a councillor in Rideau Lakes and a retired CAO, with decades of experience under his belt.
“Everybody had a good working relationship with [Arie],” Mayor Nash said at the meeting. “We found him to be an excellent interim CAO”
Arie will be working three to four days a week in Merrickville on a contract basis. “We can cancel it given two weeks notice, should our CAO be returning to the workplace,” Mayor Nash told council.
Arie will be working closely with Nigel, who will now only be filling the position of Treasurer, to finalize the budget and make sure they don’t miss any important legislated deadlines.
