Once again it took a community of dedicated people to make Kemptville & District Home Support’s Annual Big Band Dinner & Dance, a success. A total of $8,430 was raised to support the programs and services provided by KDHSI. Thank you to: our Headliner Sponsors, Grenville Mutual Insurance Company and O’Farrell Financial; our Event Sponsors; and, to all of the businesses that contributed to the evening. Please check out our website and Facebook page for a list of all of our supporters, and photos of the event.

The evening started off with a delicious cold buffet by ‘Dial A Chef’ Erick LePors. There were many comments saying how tasty and satisfying the food was. A perfect start to the night. ‘The Jivewires’ put on a high-energy show drawing people to the dance floor. Auctioneer Hunter McCaig, of Rideau Auctions, entertained the crowd during the live auction. There was also lots of bidding action during the silent auction.

Deputy Mayor Jim McManaman was our MC for the evening, and kept the fun going – starting with presenting Norma Fisher, noted for her love of dancing, a book to keep track of her ‘dance card’. The instructions to everyone were that whoever wanted to dance with Norma would have to pay $50, with the proceeds going to KDHSI. This added an extra spark to the evening. Many thanks to Norma, and to all of her dance partners, for the $410 that was raised!

A huge thank you to the Committee whose energy and passion made this a wonderful night – Tracy Bennett, Valerie Morris, Wendy Bray, Dawn Rodger and Ann Miller…and to Evelyn Surrey for your vision and commitment to this event. To all of those who volunteered, from the planning & preparation, to all of your time during the evening, and helping with the cleaning up afterward, your enthusiasm and dedication for Kemptville & District Home Support and its mission, made the whole event a wonderful success.

Next year’s Big Band Dinner & Dance will take place on Saturday April 25th, 2020. ‘The Jivewires’ will take to the stage to keep our toes tapping, and Erick LePors, Dial A Chef, will provide a feast for our taste buds. We are looking forward to see as many people out as possible.

KDHSI’s Bus Trips organized by Valerie Morris are very popular. There are several trips planned for this year. To kick off spring, the first bus trip is planned for Wednesday May 15th. Due to the popularity of the fall bus trip we will be going back to Montebello, and it will definitely be a wonderful change to the long winter.

A buffet lunch will be enjoyed by all at The Fairmont Le Château Montebello; then there will be a chance to wander around the grounds; and, on the return trip, a scenic route along Queen Elizabeth Driveway to see the Tulips in Ottawa. If you are interested in going on this bus trip please call the Centre at 613-258-3203 to reserve a spot as the seats are filling up quickly.

Thank to everyone for helping to forward the mission of Kemptville & District Home Support: To provide meaningful timely services and activities that will enhance the independent living of seniors and adults with physical disabilities within our community.

“I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver.” Poet and author, Maya Angelou.

Until next time
Susan Smith, Executive Director Kemptville & District Home Support (KDHSI)
